We caught this memorial to Benjamin Britten in Aldeburgh, Suffolk in the light of the setting sun last night... The inscription: 'I hear voices that will not be drowned' had a specific meaning in the opera from which it is quoted. To us, it was a valuable reminder of significant voices in our own experience, in other people and in the wider world that get drowned by our busyness and lack of attentiveness. Holidays are a good time for some listening!
