In her Jubilee Speech, Her Majesty the Queen said, 'Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth'. She obviously had in mind people like our amazing Welsh neighbours, Rich and Val!
It is Val and Rich who convened our Jubilee Street party today and invited us all plus our newly elected Mayor Maria Gee and her consort. They organised the cake competition and a 'choose the best decorated house' vote. They set up a PA system and divided us into teams for a street quiz. Families, children, dogs, grannies and grandpas - probably eighty people or more were out there for six hours or so with their garden furniture, barbecues, festival tables and flags. Three hours after some of the older generation(including us!) came indoors to put our feet up, there are still some neighbours sitting around out there, eating and drinking and enjoying the community that is our street - or our end of the street!
'I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions,' said the Queen. In our street they certainly were. Thank you Val and Rich for making it happen!
So very British ... love it.
So nice to see a street community getting together. Thanks for an insight into the festivities.
